New plans fora technological hub in Battersea emerge

In anticipation of a new proposal to build a technological hub in Battersea, the Wandsworth Council has agreed to sell land it owns.

Developers 8-10 IPB UK Limited (IPB) plans to redevelop the site in Ingate Place includes the creation of a building of up to 10 storeys to host small and medium businesses. Both the council’s and the developers’ aim is to attract upcoming startups looking for a home in the growing Battersea area.

Earlier this week, the executive committee of the Wandsworth council reached the decision to sell the land in Ingate Place that is currently used as a car park and let out by a third party.

Andy Algar, assistant director of housing and regeneration property services at the council, said: “IPB’s proposal does not yet have the benefit of planning permission but they are currently in discussions with the council’s development management officers.

“IPB’s proposed scheme involves the creation of a technological hub to serve as a platform for both local and international SME businesses with a focus on promoting collaborative workspace.“It is thought the scheme will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of Ingate Place.” he added.

According to the planning application that was submitted last month, the new site will feature:

  • Four-level atrium
  • Cafe open to the Battersea community
  • Coworking units

The development will contribute to the creation of new 580 jobs once completed, according to a planning statement published by Jones Lang LaSalle.

Set to be a mixed-use space that will attract local businesses and entrepreneurs, the scheme will replace the existing building that will likely be demolished.
