Northern lineextension powers ahead

One of the biggest improvements coming to Battersea Power Station and the Nine Elms area is an extension of the London Underground Northern Line from Kennington Station. This massive project is projected to open in 2021, connecting this section of south London with the city center and London Waterloo and Euston, two of the busiest stations in the United Kingdom.

Tunnels

The tunneling of the two mile (3.2 kilometer) extension from Kennington Station was completed in late 2017. Most of the works in the tunnels themselves have been completed, including construction of a walkway for emergencies (new to the London Underground). Rail installation is complete between Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms Station, and installation has started between Nine Elms and Kennington.

Nine Elms Station

Since August, construction of most of the underground works has been completed, including construction of the new platforms, though work on the finishes and other interior works will come later.

Construction of the ticket hall superstructure in the east end of site started in September. The construction columns of the 10.5 m tall structure are being installed and is the first sign of above surface construction on the building, fronting onto Wandsworth Road. The mezzanine superstructure in the west end of the site started construction in December; this part of the station will house stores and the utilities.

Battersea Power Station

This station is much further along than Nine Elms Station. This is because the emergency exits and the western entrance to the station will be part of the structure of Battersea Roof Gardens. Platforms have been constructed and in-station railwork has been installed. The station floors and some rooms have been built, and the concrete roof has started to be poured.

As soon as waterproofing of the western core is finished, work will start on the main entrance, which will be located on Battersea Park Road just east of Prospect Place.

It’s not too late to invest in London’s exciting regeneration of Battersea Power Station, with properties still available in the iconic landmark, Battersea Roof Gardens and Prospect Place, and with our partnership with the developers, new properties will become available in the future.
