Dubai announced the world's firsttemperature-controlled city

From Michelin-star hotels to world-best healthcare facilities, from theatres to themed parks and from one of the world’s largest shopping malls to the world’s tallest residential tower, Dubai has got it all. Dubai real estate is an extravagant sector in terms of size, cost and scale of real estate projects. Though the global pandemic has put a temporary halt on its progress yet Dubai is back in the most glorious way – with a stellar project described as “the world’s first temperature-controlled city”.

The project is named “The Mall of the World” and it will cover almost 4.5 million square metres. It will house the world’s largest indoor theme park, which will be covered by a glass dome and remain open throughout the year.

The project is announced by Dubai Holding and boasts the world’s largest shopping mall that will spread over 8,000,000 sq. ft. This shopping mall intends to introduce a whole new concept of a multi-level retail street network, different from the conventional shopping malls idea used in Dubai.

The world’s biggest mall will connect to 100 hotels and apartment developments with 7 kilometres promenade. This promenade will be covered and air-conditioned in the summer and remain open in winter to maintain a comfortable temperatures all year round. The design of the theatre district and a variety of venues is inspired by some of the world’s most famous monuments including London’s West End and New York’s Broadway. The Celebration Walk, modelled after Barcelona’s Ramblas Street, will link the cultural sector to the rest of the Mall.

Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the emirate’s ruler and vice president of UAE said, “This project complements our plans to transform Dubai into a cultural, tourist, and economic hub for the two billion people living in the region around us; and we are determined to achieve our vision.”

He also added that “The growth in family and retail tourism underpins the need to enhance Dubai’s tourism infrastructure as soon as possible. We are confident of our economy’s strength, optimistic about our country’s future and we continue to broaden our vision.”

The project also features a wellness zone dedicated to medical tourists, a cultural celebration area and diverse hospitality options. It would also offer ample parking facilities on the bottom level, with a capacity of up to 50,000 automobiles. The project will be car-free, serviced by old-fashioned streetcars and a new urban retro vibe. The project will follow the green and environmentally friendly guidelines of the Smart Dubai model.

The Dubai Cultural District will be a prime point for both national and international cultural events and festivals in the UAE. It will also feature a variety of conference, wedding, and celebration venues that can accommodate thousands of people, in keeping with Dubai’s multicultural social fabric. Upon completion, the mixed-use project is expected to become a new tourist destination in Dubai, with more than 180 million people expected to visit per year.
