The designs for the new London Underground station at Battersea have been approved unanimously by the Wandsworth Council planning committee. The Battersea tube station is part of the Northern Line Extension that will link Battersea, Nine Elms, and Vauxhall better and faster with Central London.

In November 2017 the main tunneling work for Battersea Underground station was completed moving the NLE one step closer to completion. You can get the latest updates on the Northern Extension here

The new tube station will open to the public in 2020, upon completion of the Battersea Power Station regeneration project, providing the new residents with exceptional links to the capital. The station is set to serve the existing communities of South West London, along with those working in the new US Embassy in Nine Elms.

Planning chairman Cllr Will Sweet said:

“This is a momentous occasion in the ongoing story of Nine Elms. Bringing the Northern Line to Battersea has been a fundamental aim of the council for many years and a crucial part of the jigsaw that makes up the area’s regeneration. The new station building looks world class and will be a fitting welcome to Nine Elms.”

Grimshaw and Partners, architects of London Bridge Station and Wimbledon’s No1 Court, have designed the new tube station to provide Battersea commuters hassle-free travel to all London destinations.

Electric Boulevard

The new Zone 1 London Underground station will have two entrances, one from Battersea Park Road and another from the Electric Boulevard, adjacent to the new homes in Battersea Power Station. By this, the residents of the development and the retailers will have a modern tube station right at their door. The Electric Boulevard is set to be London’s new electrifying high street with upscale retailers, independent shops, and modern cafes that are bound to change our perception of the “high street”.

There are also plans for a tunnel under Battersea Park Road to link the new Tube station directly to Stewart’s Road.
