There are only a few more days left until two major road projects in Dubai, designed to ease traffic, will be handed over to the public.
According to Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, the 7th interchange on the Sheikh Zayed Road Project and Al Yalayis Road Improvement Project are now almost 90% complete. Both projects will open on 15th September 2018, improving journey times for drivers.
The projects will enhance the link between the Sheikh Zayed Road and both Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority(RTA).
“They will ease the traffic flow on the Sheikh Zayed Road by diverting the traffic inbound from Abu Dhabi on the Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Road and on to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. They will also boost the business and the movement of goods from and to Jebel Ali Port,” Al Tayer noted. Phase two, improving traffic flow from SZR to Dubai Street in both directions, is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter.
Works include the construction of four-lane bridges branching out of Al Yalayes Road into two bridges of two lanes each. The first bridge is bound to Abu Dhabi and the second leads to Dubai Street, JAFZA and Jebel Ali Port.
In addition, Phase II of the Parallel Roads Project at Business Bay opened earlier in June, when RTA released videos showing how the new bridges and tunnels will contribute to the smooth flow of traffic for its users in the area.
The new road projects will drastically cut down on journey time from 12 minutes to 2.5 minutes, freeing drivers from long commutes. Drivers now benefit from the parallel roads in Business Bay on Happiness St. which facilitate traffic in the area between Al Meydan and Financial centre passing through Business Bay. It is also expected that the roadworks will increase the capacity to 20,000 vehicles per hour in both directions of Meydan Street.
