Art Basel, which also takes place in Hong Kong and Basel, is an institution in the global art scene. The Miami Beach exhibition has been taking place since 2002 and takes place this from December 5 to 9.
Curated by Philipp Kaiser and Mari Spirito, the Miami Beach event has something for everyone, from collectors to students. There are seminars with professionals from all over the world, talking about everything from museums to virtual reality, the value of blockchain technology in the arts to creative districts in the cities.
If you’re looking for contemporary and modern art, Art Basel is the event for you. The exhibition next week will host over 200 of the leading galleries from around the world. There are different types of galleries being presented.
29 of these galleries are presenting for the first time at Art Basel. Works from galleries based in Tunisia, Australia and the Netherlands are also new this year.
‘Nova’ galleries are of recent work by a single artist from the past three years. ‘Positions’ galleries presents one major artwork from new talent. The ‘Editions’ area showcases rare publications from when publishers and artists partner to create new material.
‘Kabinett’ spaces are exhibitions by specific artists within a gallery. ‘Survey’ are galleries with more recent art history. And some galleries produce their own magazines, which will be available throughout Art Basel.
Museums and galleries around Miami-Dade county also take part with special exhibitions at the Perez Art Museum Miami, Museum of Art and Design, Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami and many more.
There are also many other art festivals that take place in the next two weeks as well. Visitors have a choice of Design Miami, AQUA Art Miami, Superfine!, and many more.
